I Am Determined to Superbly Perform My Duty as a Soldier

Dear Sir

It has become early autumn.
I am most happy to know that beginning with Father, you have all been well since I last heard from you.
As for me, I am in fine spirits and diligently applying myself to my military duties so please do not worry about me.
I have duly received the goods, “the thousand-stitch belt” and the amulet that I had asked for.
At the crucial moment I will firmly wind the belt around my waist and I am determined to superbly perform my duty as a sailor.
In our hometown the rice plants must already be in full ears and the festival should be approaching.
Last year I was at home and ate many good dishes. There’s no hope for that this year. Ha-ha.
And then, I have one more request. If you have a family picture, will you please send me one?
Not having seen you for half a year now, I am a bit lonesome.
Well then, I will end here for today.
With the approach of autumn, please take good care of yourselves.
Until my next writing,
                                              Yukinobu
To all the dear people
