To My Younger Brother

Dear Younger Brother,
At this season of late autumn, I believe that you are moving forward with your student life in roaring spirits.
The time for me to go into battle has finally arrived and I am exerting myself to the utmost.
I only ask that you rest assured since I am determined to fight to the end for the sake of the Japanese Empire.
Since you are also training yourself to someday be an officer of the Imperial Japanese Navy, you should keep your goal
high, make death-defying effort and study diligently.
I firmly believe that all things can be accomplished through willpower, effort and sincerity.
It is my lack of virtue as your brother for not fully guiding you.
While I deeply regret this, my love for my younger brother is sincere.
As the cold winter approaches, I ask that you take care of yourself and charge into your student life with all your abilities.
Sincerely yours,

The night before departing,
To: Shigeyoshi
