RESTAURANT
Yasukuni Yachiyo Shokudo
Featuring numerous items only available at the Yasukuni Jinja Outer Garden Rest Area, this restaurant’s relaxing, traditional Japanese-style interior has been newly furnished to celebrate the shrine’s milestone 150th anniversary as well as the dawn of the Reiwa era.
Our signature dish is the rice bowl topped with scrambled egg served at Tomiya Shokudo, the designated dining hall of Chiran Airbase in Kagoshima Prefecture, by Torihama Tome, affectionately known as the “Mother of the Kamikaze Pilots.”
The original taste is reproduced authentically under the general supervision of Tome’s grandson Akihisa.
We also offer various soba-noodle dishes made with carefully selected ingredients and accompanied by delicious homemade dipping sauce.
In addition, we sell memorabilia, gifts, and souvenirs to commemorate your visit to Yasukuni Jinja along with our own exclusive Japanese sweets and merchandise.
Our specialty soft-serve ice cream, Karinto Manju (deep-fried brown-sugar buns stuffed with bean paste), tea, and various coffee drinks are even available for takeout.
Our traditional Japanese sweets, green tea, and various coffee drinks are even available for takeout as special souvenirs.
We also sell alcohol. We look forward to your visit.

The original taste, serving style, and other aspects are perfectly recreated using flavoring sauce prepared with care by Torihama Tome’s successor, Torihama Akihisa (director of the Tomiya Shokudo Hotarukan Kamikaze Museum in Chiran, Kagoshima; grandson of Torihama Tome) and delivered from Chiran twice a week. Tiered food boxes and other items used at Tomiya Shokudo are also on display inside the restaurant. This is our signature dish that will take you back in time to the days of the brave young kamikaze pilots.

Rich in minerals and subtly sweet, snow meltwater from Aizu is even used by the region’s breweries, which lead the nation in first-place prizes at sake fairs. Our soba noodles are made with this delicious water and homemade coarsely ground buckwheat flour from Minamiaizu. The entire dehulled seeds including the coating are milled together just before making the noodles, thereby almost perfectly retaining the flavor and aroma of fresh buckwheat.
Enjoy tasty soba noodles born from the natural bounty of Aizu together with carefully homemade dipping sauce and freshly fried tempura. -

The thought that goes into each bowl of rice and scrambled egg
Our concept is “a place to convey the feelings of the departed spirits once scattered in the tumult of war and the love of those who martyred themselves for their country, along with those who sent them off and supported them.” Our signature dish is the rice bowl topped with scrambled egg served at Tomiya Shokudo, the designated dining hall of the former Japanese Imperial Army airbase in Chiran, by Torihama Tome, known as the “Mother of the Kamikaze Pilots.”
With the full cooperation of Torihama Tome’s successor Torihama Akihisa (former director of the Tomiya Shokudo Hotarukan Kamikaze Museum in Chiran, Kagoshima; grandson of Torihama Tome) as well as the Torihama Tome Memorial Association, we use flavoring sauce prepared with care by Tome’s great-grandson, Kenta Torihama(director of the Tomiya Shokudo Hotarukan) and delivered directly from Chiran to authentically infuse the dish with Tome’s feelings as she sent off the brave souls lost in the Battle of Okinawa, promising them to “meet again at Yasukuni.”
In addition, a portion of the proceeds from this dish are donated to the maintenance and various activities of the Tomiya Shokudo Hotarukan Kamikaze Museum.
