This is a large lantern made of bronze.
With a softly curved roof and the natural tones of bronze, its octagonal fire-box is inlaid with red glass.
The designs around the sides represent creatures from ancient Chinese mythology. The lantern was donated in 1880 by the Police Affairs Bureau, the precursor to the National Police Agency, to commemorate policemen killed in the Seinan War.
