The prototype for this statue is on display in the Yushukan Museum.
Depicting a Navy Flight Reserve Student, it was produced by the sculptor Kitamura Seibo while he was a professor at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, now Tokyo University of the Arts, in order to mourn and pray for the peaceful repose of his pupils who volunteered to become Navy Flight Reserve Students, and eventually died heroic deaths in the skies.
A larger version was later produced by his protégé Ishiguro Koji and donated by the Tokkotai Commemoration Peace Memorial Association in March 1999.
